Paper Summary

April 29, 2010

Well im done, paper was interesting and kind of brought out a different side of me, almost my salesman side on trying to sell this organization to the people.  Well basically the paper is about me acting on behalf of the NHL trying to get new people interested in the sport mainly a younger crowd.  But to do this I have to for one get the parents ok, and then keep it interesting to the kids to help keep the attention.  So using social media I would launch a huge pr spread to try to change the parents aspect of the game of hockey and then launch some funny videos or tips and tricks from the players to help get the younger crowd into the sport.  Using sites such as facebook and twitter  I can access millions of people and kids for free!! the cheapest and most effective way of reaching young kids eyeballs.  Just trying to get some new faces into the sport, even if I can only add one new team to the sport, that would be a huge accomplishment, because that one team will grow and have kids of there own and have maybe a new generation to keep the sport alive.   I will have to post the whole paper online so you can get the full effect of the movement.  I am tempted to email it to the head of operations at the NHL office and ask him why he has not tried anything like this before.

PAPER TOPIC

April 24, 2010

My term paper for social media will cover the topic of how a group like the National Hockey League can use social media to attack the younger market and get more kids in to the sport and get more positive attention and not the bad attention it gets with violence, this could be used to attack almost any pr issue.

Video project

April 7, 2010

This video was a partner ship with Kenneth Scott from class, and his friend Jojo Lemberg. It was shot using one of sonys new HD camcorders that sony let me barrow, fx1000. Its small but powerful design allows it to be portable but also have amazing quality. Its so durable that you can even find it being used on such shows as “Dirty Jobs”, or even “Myth Busters” on discovery.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Future of Social Media

March 25, 2010

The Future of social media

In my opinion the future of social media is going to go in every direction affecting everything in our life.  Magazines like consumer report or websites like cnet will just almost disappear and be replaced with customer’s personal reviews of products that they post on sites like you tube were you can get a true unbiased opinion.  In a class today I watched a movie called “outfoxed” about how Fox News is a very biased right wing republican view and will openly attack any opposes that try to contradict its views.  Now in the future I see sites such as digg and other sites will soon follow that will support just an open format of reporting, just look at twitter in the Iraq elections.  In this open format people deiced what they want to see and hear about the news, offering a truly “fair” news organization that relies on its viewers to give all the news from both sides of view, your far left and your far right views.  Places like this web blog will become the new wave of mass media.  I am actually really hoping this happens very soon, because like said in the video from class, people power, we trust the friends opinions over others all the time.  We can take control of the mass media, and take it away from the 6 people that control it now.  Another big movement I think will be on sites like facebook or MySpace, you will come encounter with needing personal security, or some way to keep “identity theft” from happing, and affecting you in new ways, such as future jobs or relationships.  The best thing about social media, its open to everyone idea, is also its scariest allowing very little security or protection to its users.  Especially with how easy it is to access the social sites, and how mobile devices with Internet are getting smaller and smaller with a smaller price tag attached to it.   What I say here is just a small possible idea, comment and add to the idea and lets see what you can come up with.

The truth of the internet

March 17, 2010

Download: the truth of the internet, bubble

This video clip was actually very interesting, I remember the dot com bust and all of the boom that came before, but had no idea that to get the leg up on the competition that amazon took profit hits to get more people.  Basically I feel that future online businesses are going to be kind of out of luck.  I feel that it takes a lot of trust and backing to make a truly successful online company and with these two huge online giants amazon and ebay.  I feel that the market is just not there for new businesses.  For one to start up I feel that they would have to partner up with some other giant looking to get into the game, such as microsoft or whoever, and try to stay finically afloat while taking on the same principles as amazon and try to grow big fast.  Once you get some growth and you feel that you have found your spot in the online marketplace you have to keep constantly improving it, to give it something that the other two are not offering to set your self apart from them and try to keep the new people you have started to attract.  Another important key feature I think you must offer is paypal access, because they tend to offer a little more hope of safety for the consumer who does not normally buy online but is wanting to try.  When I personally see the paypal logo it helps set in my mind that this is a real company and not some scammer. So, with added security and constantly trying to keep up with some unique features that set you apart will be your keys to success on keeping your new company afloat.  You have to get a name out on the market at first and I feel that it will take a lot of money and some time of losing more money to fight these giants, so it will be hard to convince a financial supporter to keep dumping money in to your business while he sees no money return.  So good luck to all you future business owners, not saying it is impossible, just expect a bumpy and long road to success.

3-D TV!

February 17, 2010

so this summer some new great things are coming around, besides my birthday, sony is launching its new 3d tv line up.  Now, yes 3d ready tvs have been out in the past and havnt really caught on.  But sony is going to be the first and only ones that are going to give you a true 3d experiance with a true 1080p resolution.  How you ask? well in the past companies like Mitsubishi and Samsung have made 3d ready tvs, that use just the typical basic polarized glass to do the 3d at 240 frams a second but showing you half of the resolution at a time, basicaly flashing you one half a screen then the other never actually using the tvs full ability for hd.  Now sony is actually using a powered eye glass set that has little shutters that shut at 240 times a second, so the tv never cheats you out of half the resolution and you get full 3d with out having to sacrafice the better resolution.  Now the joys of being sony means you have alot of market in the gaming world as well as being the inventor of the blu-ray movement, so also launching this summer is going to be an update for the play station 3 to make it 3d as well as launching a new line of blu ray players that can do the 3d ability.  Best thing is that you dont have to buy new games or blu rays to do this and if you have a ps3 already you can get the 3d on your games or movies.  Now they are makeing 3 different model lines a nx, hx and xbr that will be 3d going in size from a 40,40,52,55 then also in one or two models a 65 and 70.  Just like always sony only gives you the price of one model as of now and havnt set a release date for the other models , but on the website sonystyle.com they have the nx series in a 46″ for $2299, but dont let that worry you, every year they start off like that and usally drop in price very fast.  If any of this intrest you, you can go to any of the local sonystyle stores in austin or san antonio to check it out, I just did and it was mind blowing.

apple vs mac

February 11, 2010

Apple vs. Windows

Apple and windows, two very different companies right? Well they at one time were partners when Bill Gates was creating the software for apple.  He tried to get apple to purchase the rights to the program but they did not take his advice and just let it be so Bill decided to do it and start making some money, that started the whole apple vs windows issues.   Steve Jobs in my opinion is more of a product sales man then legal wiz like his counter part Bill.  What I  mean is that Bill tries to constantly update his product or software, to maximize his total profit by selling his product to all the computer companies, yes even apple go look at the mac store for your very own copy of Microsoft office or even a dual boot mac with windows! Every new pc sold he gets a little chunk of change that helps keep his business afloat.  Now Steve Jobs on the other hand has gone a different path and tried to put something with apples name on it in the pocket of every person and has just about done that with the ipod.  Now Jobs constantly keeps coming out with new and improved ones or even giant ipods named iPADS, and puts a hefty price tag on it and will keep on making a lot of money doing so.  Bill started off as the better marketer doing a lot of commercials using his young age and looks to help promote his product, to now were he does not really do any advertising.  Now Steve Jobs has gone out and started advertising like a mad man and it has paid off just look, you cant go to any store, not even the local market and not see something apple, even a gift card in the checkout line.  He has even started attacking the pc market with his new commercials of a “young hip guy” playing the mac, and the old fat nerdy guy playing the pc.  Bill has come back with his new windows 7 commercials and I think they are starting to work because I sell electronics, and now I am starting to see a huge increase in people asking for pc laptops now and not mac.

Internet history video

February 1, 2010

Today in class we finished the internet video, now I kinda have a thing for the history channel and  learning the history of things, espcially electronics, so I found the video actually intersesting.  Now the part that really caught my attention was just how in the time it has been since that movie was made we have changed the way we look at the web and use it for.  Just looking at some of the “current” things they were using on the movie like the high speed modem or the computers them selfs have changed to even faster and smaller devices.  I can seriously say that peoples life revolves around the internet and staying connected at all times.  I am one of the people who use the iphone, and I use it to access the web more than I use my computer.  But the most common thing that I do on the web is video games.  What would the orginal founders do if they knew that this idea of linking computers at a couple colleges would eventually evolve to something that millions of players get on to not share a message or a file, but to just simply do entertainment? or simulators?
